Close Brothers advised Varian Medical Systems on the sale of the Research Instruments business of ACCEL InstrumentsFrankfurt/Main, 7 April 2009Varian Medical Systems, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of medical devices and software for treating cancer and other medical conditions with radiotherapy, radiosurgery, proton therapy, and brachytherapy, sold its Research Instruments business unit of ACCEL Instruments GmbH to Bruker Advanced Supercon, Inc., a subsidiary of Bruker Corporation. The transaction creates a global leader in superconducting technologies for alternative energy research and next-generation energy infrastructure. The Research Instruments ("RI") business acquired by Bruker is a world leader in the development and manufacturing of a wide variety of advanced superconducting and other subunits and systems for physics and energy research, and other scientific applications. RI products include electron and ion linear accelerators, superconducting and normal conducting accelerator cavities, insertion devices, other accelerator components, neutron source subunits, specialized superconducting magnets, superconducting devices, X-ray and particle beamlines, as well as vacuum and cryosystems. Close Brothers acted as exclusive financial adviser to Varian Medical Systems on this transaction.
